EBOLA: NIGERIAN SOLDIER TESTS POSITIVE IN LIBERIA

Ebola again. A Nigerian soldier on the United Nations’ peace mission in Liberia has tested positive to the Ebola virus, the Associated Press reports.

He is expected to be flown to the Netherlands for treatment, a Dutch Health Ministry spokeswoman said on Friday.

The soldier will go into isolation at a “calamity unit” at the University Medical Center Utrecht, according to Inge Freriksen.

He is due in Amsterdam this weekend and he will be transferred by ambulance to nearby Utrecht, the AP says.
 
Late Thursday, the UN mission announced that the soldier had tested positive to the dreaded disease a day earlier.
 
This is the third case of Ebola among mission personnel, according to Karin Landgren, a top UN envoy in the country. The previous two had died.
 
The mission has so far identified 16 people who came into contact with the soldier, and they have been quarantined, she said. Areas the peacekeeper visited while symptomatic have been decontaminated.
 
The man will be the first Ebola patient hospitalized in the Netherlands. He is being treated in a Dutch hospital at the request of the World Health Organization, Freriksen said.

Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American who brought Ebola into the country, was a bio-terrorist, bent on a mission to deliberately infect as many Nigerians as possible with the deadly virus, the Chief Medical Director of First Consultant Hospital, Benjamin Ohiaeri, has said.

In a detailed interview with ThisDay newspaper, Mr. Ohiaeri spoke of how Mr. Sawyer lied to his hospital that he had no contact with any Ebola case and how he plotted to be allowed to storm the streets of Nigeria to spread the virus.

He also revealed shocking details of how Mr Sawyer deliberately and systematically infected hospital personnel with the virus.

US Nurse Under Ebola Quarantine Criticizes Treatment

Kaci Hickox, the first nurse to quarantined under a strict new policy on her return from treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, criticized her treatment in a Dallas Morning News op-ed on Saturday.

Her words echoed concerns voiced by medical professionals that a mandatory 21-day quarantine for doctors and nurses who have treated Ebola patients would deter volunteers from signing on to fight the epidemic.

"I am scared about how health care workers will be treated at airports when they declare that they have been fighting Ebola in West Africa," Hickox wrote "I am scared that, like me, they will arrive and see a frenzy of disorganization, fear and, most frightening, quarantine."CONTINUE READING.....

EBOLA: MALI CONFIRMS FIRST INFECTION CASE

Can't Ebola threatening Africans?....The Malian government has confirmed the first case of Ebola in the country.

According to the BBC, a two-year-old girl had tested positive for the haemorrhagic virus.

Reports said she recently returned from the neighbouring Guinea.
 
More than 4,800 people have died of Ebola - mainly in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone - since March.
 
Meanwhile, an international team of scientists has been set up to determine the effectiveness of using the blood of Ebola survivors as a treatment.

On October 23, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio hosted a press conference and announced that a 33-year-old man currently kept in isolation at the Bellevue Hospital Center had tested positive for Ebola.

A US doctor based in New York who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea has become the first person in the city to test positive for Ebola. 33 year old Dr. Craig Allen Spencer had been working with Doctors without Borders in Guinea, and returned to NYC on October 17th. He tested positive to the virus the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York yesterday October 23rd.

Ebola vaccine may be ready in Africa by January – WHO

 An experimental version of Ebola vaccine could be ready for mass distribution in Africa by January, if current trials are successful, Dr Marie-Paule Kieny, an assistant director general for World Health Organization (WHO) told reporters today (October 21, 2014) in Geneva.

She said there are two leading candidates for a vaccine.

One of them, developed by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and GlaxoSmithKline from a modified chimpanzee cold virus and an Ebola protein, is in clinical trials in the U.K. and in Mali. It will be used in clinical trials in Lausanne, Switzerland, by the start of February.

 President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan welcomes today’s declaration by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that Nigeria is now officially Ebola-free after 42 days without any incidence of the Ebola Virus Disease.

President Jonathan dedicates the certification to the many patriotic health workers, volunteers and ordinary Nigerians who worked tirelessly, some of them paying the ultimate price, to stop the deadly virus in its track after it entered the country in July this year.

The President seizes this opportunity to also reiterate his appreciation of the contributions of state governments, WHO and other international health organisations, relatives of infected persons and other Nigerians who either courageously underwent the rigours of being quarantined or complied with all directives issued by health authorities to defeat the virus.

He believes that Nigeria’s globally-acclaimed success against Ebola is a testimony to what Nigerians can achieve if they set aside their differences and work together, and calls on Nigerians to strive to replicate the unity of purpose and all-hands-on-deck approach adopted against Ebola in other areas of national life.

As the nation applauds the success of its collective effort to stop the transmission of the Ebola Virus within Nigeria however, the President warns that the entire country must remain fully alert and vigilant against the re-entry of the virus.

BRITAIN BANS HOSPITALS FROM TREATING FOREIGN PATIENTS TO CURTAIL EBOLA

IN a dramatic attempt at preventing the entry and spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the United Kingdom (UK), the British Health Care Authorities (HCA) have issued an administrative order to all NHIS affiliated hospitals across the United Kingdom banning them from treating medical tourists, routine or emergency patients, particularly from Africa and any country where Ebola outbreak has been reported, especially if such patients have spent less than 21 days in the United Kingdom prior to the treatment date.
A spokesperson of the Royal Wellington Hospital in central London confirmed this statement saying that for a non-British resident to be treated in any public hospital, such a person must have spent 21 days in the UK.
The permutation is that a patient is declared free from the Ebola Virus Disease if 21 days after arrival from an Ebola endemic region, such a person remains healthy. However, British citizens and other legal residents who remain in the UK will continue to receive medical treatment as often as they require it.

WHO DECLARES SENEGAL EBOLA-FREE

Senegal is officially free of Ebola, with the benchmark of 42 days without the disease having passed without any new cases, the World Health Organization said Friday.
“WHO officially declares the Ebola outbreak in Senegal over and commends the country on its diligence to end the transmission of the virus,” the UN health agency said in a statement.

The Red Cross has brought a disease to 4 specific countries for 4 specific reasons and it is only contracted by those who receive treatments and injections from the Red Cross. REASONS:

Most people jump to “depopulation” which is no doubt always on the mind of the West when it comes to Africa. But I assure you Africa can NEVER be depopulated by killing 160 people a day when thousands are born per day. So the real reasons are much more tangible.

Reason 1: This vaccine implemented sickness being “called” Ebola was introduced into West Africa for the end goal of getting troops on the ground in Nigeria, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. EBOLA KILLS UN WORKER IN GERMANY

A United Nation Aids worker who was being treated for Ebola at the St George clinic in Leipzig, Germany has died. The unidentified UN worker who was flown back to Germany from Liberia  last week after contracting the deadly virus, died in the early hours of today, October 14th. His uncle, Dr Onyekwena J.C, in a statement yesterday accused the doctor’s wife, the Minister of Health and Rivers State Government of conniving to damage the good name of the deceased doctor.

Our soldiers in Liberia; free of Ebola. says Nigerian Military

The Nigerian military has debunked claims that one of its soldiers tested positive to the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in Liberia.The Defence Headquarters said in a tweet on Friday, that the Nigerian troops were only confined to their camp as precautionary measures and for medical observations.

The DHQ said this decision was taken after a Sudanese staff of the United Nations, UN, was reported to have manifested symptoms of the deadly disease.According to DHQ; All necessary steps are also being taken to ensure that none of the Nigerian troops is affected by the disease while serving in Liberia.
