Postponement Of Elections In Nigeria, American Government Release Statement Says They Are Deeply Disappointed

The United States is deeply disappointed by the decision to postpone Nigeria’s presidential election, which had been scheduled for February 14.

Political interference with the Independent National Electoral Commission is unacceptable, and it is critical that the government not use security concerns as a pretext for impeding the democratic process.

CSOs Call For Resignation Of Security Chiefs Over Election Postponement

                                         

The  Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (Situation Room) has called on the security chiefs in the country to resign their appointments immediately over their inability to provide security for millions of Nigerians. 

According to a statement from Agianpe Ashang of the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), said that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, at a meeting with 12 national commissioners and other stakeholders conveyed that he had received a letter from the security services advising that he postponed the general elections on the grounds that the security agencies were engaged in a renewed battle against insurgency in the North-East that would require their full concentration.

According to Jega in the letter, the military was demanding a rescheduling of elections by at least six weeks.

Ladies and Gentlemen, We invited you here today to make known the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the timetable for the 2015 general elections. Let me state from the outset that the Commission’s position was reached after carefully weighing the suggestions from briefings held with different stakeholders in the electoral process. 

The conduct of elections in a country like Nigeria is invariably a collective venture that involves not just the Election Management Body (EMB), but also a diverse range of stakeholders, notably security agencies, political parties and their candidates, voters, as well as interest groups, such as the civil society organizations and the media.To guarantee successful conduct of elections, there are things that are wholly the responsibility of the EMB. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has just heard over the news media that The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to postpone the elections by six weeks on the strength of a letter by the security chiefs that they cannot provide security for the elections nationwide because of the commitment of its resources to fight insurgency in the north eastern part of the country. THE director general of Buhari campaign organization and Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, has threatened mass action if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decides today to shift this month’s election.

Amaechi, who said monumental change is about to happen in Nigeria because the vast majority of Nigerians yearn for it, insisted that the presidential election must hold on February 14 because Nigerians are charged and poised to vote on that day for an inevitable change.

He stated this during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign rally at Isiokpo, the headquarters of his Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Remember that former Commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Victor-Ben Ebikabowei, aka Boyloaf; leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari; and Government Ekpudomenowei, aka Tompolo, the militants had threatened unrest if the President loses his second term bid.

The Ohanaeze Ndi’gbo argued that what the militants meant was that if the election is not fair and credible and Jonathan loses, they will reject the result. This, the Igbo group said, “is a right position to take.”

Nigerian Army arrest officers for loosing commands to Boko Haram

                

The Nigerian Army high command has ordered the arrest of its commander of the Barga axis of its fighting force that caved into the hands of Boko Haram recently.

The officer Brigadier General Ransome Kuti who has been in the military hospital recuperating from his wound was flown to Abuja along side other senior officers to answer for his humiliating loss of Barga town to the insurgents recently.

The other officers flown with him to face the wrath of the high command in what military sources described as military offenses were the commander of Mongonu another Brigadier General who was also recuperating at the military hospital.

ISIS To Obama: 'We Will Cut Off Your Head In The White House'

                           

The video shows ISIS militants standing in the streets of Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, following an artillery barrage on the city by Kurdish Peshmerga forces. In front of the militants is seated a Kurdish soldier who is executed at the end of the video. 

Prior to the Kurdish soldiers execution, the ISIS executioner delivered a message in Kurdish which was subtitled into Arabic in the video.

The former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) has restated the resolve of the Niger Delta warlords to make Nigeria ungovernable if President Jonathan fails to return as president in next month's general election.

In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Mr Paul Bebenimibo, in Warri yesterday January 29th, Tompolo attacked Gen Theophilus Danjuma for calling for his arrest alongside Asari Dokubo and other Niger delta warlords. He said the treaty that merged the Northern and Southern protectorate of Nigeria expired last year and everyone should be grateful to President Jonathan for keeping Nigeria together. We Saw Helicopters Dropping Arms, Food For Boko Haram – Internally Displaced People.

Displaced residents of Monguno, in Borno State, which was recently taken over by Boko Haram, have said they saw helicopters dropping arms and food items for the insurgents in the bushes.

The IDPs, who said they spent about 48 hours in the bush running towards Maiduguri, expressed worry that the Boko Haram sect was not the only ones involved in the insurgency, but that there are many foreign fighters and some external supports.

APC Alleges Plot To Disqualify Buhari

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plans to get Muhammadu Buhari disqualified from the presidential race so that there would be riots and postponement of the polls.

In a statement on Thursday, APCPCO alleged that the PDP wanted to get a court to pronounce that Buhari, the APC presidential candidate, lied under oath in saying that the military had his certificates.

The military denied being in possession of the certificates in a saga that has continued to dominate the campaign.

Garba Shehu, APCPCO’s director of media and publicity, said a federal high court judge had been hired to do a “dirty hatchet job”.

Indeed, upon the release of the tapes, the APC must explain to Nigerians how it got hold of them. We ask, is the APC working in collaboration with terrorist cells, who have been unleashing violence against innocent citizens of our dear nation?

Ex-Militants Leaders Led By General Tompolo Meet In Bayelsa, Threatens War If Jonathan Loses Election

                

A group of ex-militants and their leaders in the Niger Delta, led by Government Ekpemopulo (aka Tompolo), on Friday met in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, and threatened war over what they described as coordinated attacks on the campaign team of President Goodluck Jonathan in some Northern States. The group vowed to resort to violence and engage in armed confrontation with anyone or group plotting to derail Mr. Jonathan’s second term ambition.

 Those who attended the meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the Bayelsa State Government House, included Kingsley Kuku, a special adviser to the president and chairman of the presidential amnesty program, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Mr. Ekpemopulo, Victor Ben Ebikabowei (aka Boy Loaf), Eris Paul, also known as General Ogunboss, and Pastor Reuben.  


Addressing the gathering in Ijaw language, Mr. Ekpemopulo, better known by his nickname of Tompolo, said he would not dwell on the recent cases of intimidation and attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan, but called on the youths and the political figures from the region to forgive one another and forge a united front. “Let us unite and within seven days, you will see what will happen,” he said.

Boko Haram Victims to Get $1bn' - President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday promised that the Federal Government would raise $1bn (over 200 billion naira) to support over one million Boko Haram victims. 

According to Vanguard, Jonathan said this while on a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Shehu El-Kanemi in Maiduguri while in the Borno State capital in continuation of his presidential re-election rally.
