Mauro Ciono, 69, would target women telling them that they faced eternal damnation for their sins unless they allowed him to drive out their demons – which according to police, would involve sex.
According to police if the women complained about what he was doing he told them that it meant they were still not properly purged and needed to come back for a second session.
A case of assault has been filed against him with the trial due to start in January next year in the town of Arezzo, in central Italy.
He said that sex with him was equivalent of an exorcism that would drive out the demons.
He was booted out of the Catholic Church in 1985 over allegations that he was trying to found his own sect.
It is believed he used his special exorcism routine on at least 10 women.
